Typical documents
The legal basis is § 43a of the Nursing Training and Examination Ordinance (PflAPrV). Official recommendations and authority leaflets typically list:
- the authority's application form
- passport with name, date and place of birth and photo in Latin script
- proof of name change if applicable
- tabular CV (education, training, work)
- diploma or degree certificate in nursing
- detailed list of subjects and hours (theory and practice)
- proof of work experience (e.g. employer references)
- licence or registration in the country of origin, if any
- depending on the authority: proof that you intend to work in that federal state (e.g. job offer)
Documents for the licence
For the licence, evidence of personal suitability (e.g. criminal record certificate), health (medical certificate) and German skills is also required (§ 2 PflBG). The authority decides when to submit them.
Translations and copies
Documents generally need German translations by publicly appointed or sworn translators; the authority may waive this or accept translations into English (§ 43a (3) PflAPrV). Certified copies are not generally required; with justified doubts, certified copies or originals can be requested (§ 43a (5) PflAPrV).
